How to Raw Feed Your Dogs on Holiday

When considering the switch to raw feeding, we often get asked about how this can be managed if you're planning a holiday with your dog or regularly travel with your dog.

We're here to reassure you that you can continue to raw feed your dog when on holiday through some small adjustments and a little bit of planning.

In the UK there are so many amazing pet-friendly locations and thousands of independent and large raw food suppliers so that you can continue to stick to your dogs regular feeding routine.

Plan Ahead

Make sure to know how many days you're going away for, how many meals your dog may need and how many grams that will be. This will mean you know exactly how many tubs you'll need to last the full trip. You can find out your dogs recommended daily food allowance on your raw feeding calculator.

This will vary based on your dogs weight, a very small dog for example may be able to do a weeks holiday with just a couple of small 500g tubs making travelling and raw feeding fairly simply.

However a larger dog that needs a few hundred grams or even a kilo a day will require some forward thinking.

Shop Local

Part of this planning may be that you scout out the local area to find all the raw food stores near you. This means you won't need to travel with as much and if you're going for a longer trip you can stock up throughout. With raw feeding becoming more and more popular there are hundreds of raw food stockists all across the UK.

Cool Boxes & Freezers

A great solution if you're taking your dog along with you for a campervan or camping trip, is to use a plug in fridge / freezer (although a lot of campervans may already have these). You can simply plug in and keep your dogs food at the correct temperature and most can either be used as a freezer or fridge depending on what works best for you.

Once defrosted Benyfit Natural food stays fresh for 4 days, so utilising a portable fridge or freezer will help for shorter trips and can keep anything you buy when on the road cool too.

If you're going on a very short trip for a weekend then a simple cool box might be suitable. Simply stock up with freezer packs and allow your dogs food to slowly defrost on the go, we'd recommend trying to re-freezer ice packs whenever possible but this is a great solution for an overnight stay.

Direct Delivery

If you're heading off for a week or two away in a dog-friendly holiday cottage why not have your food delivered straight to the door. You can have your usual subscription, or a one-off order delivered so it's ready for you on the day of arrival.

Maintain Routine

Travelling can be disruptive for our dogs, especially if they're doing a long journey or staying in an unfamiliar place. Try to maintain their usual feeding routine as best as possible. Feed at the same times and bring along their bowl from home too.

Make sure to have plenty of treats available for them to keep them calm and fresh water should always be available.

Alternatives to Raw

In some cases if you cannot find access to a local store, freezer, fridge or cool bag you may be looking for an alternative to raw feeding.
